Street Tree Maintenance
The River Glen Homeowners Association implemented a street tree replacement program beginning in 2014 to help replace trees which had become old and brittle or were causing sidewalk damage. The program which ended in 2019 reimbursed homeowners $200 per tree and replaced 210 trees.
The street trees as well as the sidewalks are owned by the City of Springfield but are the responsibility of the homeowner to maintain. To remain in compliance with the city building code, the lower branches of the trees need to be trimmed to a height of 8 feet above street and sidewalk surfaces. This allows for pedestrians, street sweepers, garbage trucks and other service vehicles to pass beneath the trees without damaging them.
